Jacob (right) - at a Remembrance Day ceremony held at Delhi War Cemetery, India.  Jacob-Farj-Rafael "JFR" Jacob (born 1923) is a retired Indian Army Lieutenant General. He is best known for the role he played in India's victory in the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971 and the Liberation of Bangladesh. Jacob, then a Major General, served as the Chief of Staff of the Indian Army's Eastern Command during the war. During his 36 year career in the army, he also fought in World War II and the Indo-Pakistan War of 1965. He later served as the Governor of the Indian states of Goa and Punjab.. Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day or Armistice Day) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth countries since the end of World War I to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. This day, or alternative dates, are also recognized as special days for war remembrances in many non-Commonwealth countries. The Chief of the Defence Staff General Sir Nicholas Houghton and Mr Peter Andrews, father of Flight Sergeant Gary Andrews, killed in Afghanistan joined Prime Minister David Cameron as they laid a wreath at a Service of Dedication to inaugurate the Bastion Memorial, for those who lost their lives during combat operations in Afghanistan.
