  • © Licensed to London News Pictures. 6/5/2012. Solihull, West Midlands, UK. Age or disability are no barrier to the residents of The Royal Star & Garter Home in Solihull. Determined to enjoy the May Bank holiday they asked staff if they could organise their own Maypole dance and keep the traddition alive. Streamers were tied to the circular balcony and dropped down to the marquetry floor below, as residents shook bells, waved ribbons and clashed sticks just like Morris men of old. Most of the residents some in their nineties, clapped, cheered and sang as their wheelchairs weaved in and out of the brightly coloured streamers. The Royal Star & Garter is a charity formed in 1916 who care for members of the ex-services and have two homes, one in Richmond and the other, opened in 2008, in Solihull.
