Staff test a hi-tech programmable METIman medical training mannekin, which will be used to test the skills of doctors at the new facility. General Medical Council (GMC) staff prepare for the opening of the regulator's new test facility in central Manchester. The £2.5m clinical assessment centre in the city's Spinningfields district will assess the skills of overseas-trained doctors who want to work in the UK. Once it opens in early August, more than 1,000 doctors per month will undergo a series of practical tests to show they have the skills required for a licence to practise medicine in the UK. It will replace the GMC's existing test centre, which has a more limited capacity. Photo credit: Joel Goodman/LNP
