As the sun sets on the end of a breezy and blustery day in west Wales, tens of thousand of tiny starlings fly in to crowd together for warmth, and to roost safely for the night on the cast iron legs underneath Aberystwyth’s Victorian seaside pier. Despite being still plentiful in Aberystwyth, the birds are in the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds ‘red list’ of at risk species, with their numbers across the UK declining by over 60% since the 1970’s. The Pie and Mash Shop on Walthamstow High Street has been listed due to both its design and historical interest. It embodies the standard features of the London eel, pie and mash shop, from the gilt lettering on the shop-front to the white-tiled interior with mirrors, seating booths and marble counters. And historically illustrates a type of establishment and cuisine that was a staple of early twentieth century working-class life.Photo credit : Peter Kollanyi/LNP

Exterior shot of the former Granada cinema turned bingo hall and now turned church. It was one of only two Granada cinemas to be given Grade 2 listed status. The church will soon begin to repaint parts of the exterior and is in discussions with heritage consultants and the local council about other changes.
