  • © under license to London News Pictures. 30.11.2010. Jock the kitten sits below a portrait of Sir Winston Chrchill. A new kitten has taken up residence at 'Chartwell' the residence of the late Sir Winston Churchill. The former Prime Minister owned a marmalade coloured cat which he named Jock, after Sir Jock Colville, one of his personal secretaries. On his death, Churchill left wishes that there should always be a cat with four white paws and a white bib "in comfortable residence" at Charwell. The original Jock meant so much to Churchill that he attended many war time cabinet meetings with him and rumour has it that meals in the Churchill household did not commence until ginger tabby Jock was present at the table. The current Jock was rescued by The Cats Protection before being adopted by Chatwell's House and Collections Manager, Alice Martin. Picture credit should read Grant Falvey/London News Pictures
