The inaugural UVU Volcano Marathon takes place on 14th November 2013. Competitors will assemble at San Pedro de Atacama in the heart of the Atacama Desert, the driest desert in the world. The race will begin at the Tropic of Capricorn adjacent to Lascar Volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in Northern Chile. Despite the desert setting, there is a strong likelihood of snow on the ground at the start line. At an altitude of 4,300 metres (14,100 feet), the impact of thinner air will also be felt by competitors.. Photo credit : Mike King/LNP
