The last four members of the York branch of the Normandy Veterans Association have attended a service today at York minster as part of a special memorial to lay-up their standard in it's final resting place in the minster & to all who served in the Normandy campaign in 1944. The standard has been placed in it's case in the North Transept of the minster by Kenneth Smith who was part of the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry and landed in Normandy on D-Day June 1944 aged just 19 years old. Mr Smith was joined by the remaining three members of the York branch - Ken Cooke, 91, Albert Barritt, 91 and George Meredith, 92 - and their families for the service. Former Royal Engineer Major and Bomb Disposal officer John Phillips DSC  visits the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire to pay his respects to a fallen colleague, Jim Prescott on the 30th anniversary of the Falklands Conflict.  ..John lost his left arm in 1982 after he diffused and unexploded bomb for which he received a Distinguished Service Cross...The veterans also took part in a Remembrance service where a single candle was lit in the Millenium Chapel within the grounds of the Arboretum.   ..Along with the service those present were invited to view the ongoing work on a new memorial, initiated by the South Atlantic Medal Association (SAMA 82), to remember the 255 UK servicemen who were killed during the Falklands war. During the service Margaret lit a single candle in the Millenium Chapel and took part in a one minute silence to hounour the loss of 255 service men during the conflict.   ..Along with the service those present were invited to view the ongoing work on a new memorial, initiated by the South Atlantic Medal Association (SAMA 82), to remember the 255 UK servicemen who were killed during the Falklands war. Jacob (right) - at a Remembrance Day ceremony held at Delhi War Cemetery, India.  Jacob-Farj-Rafael "JFR" Jacob (born 1923) is a retired Indian Army Lieutenant General. He is best known for the role he played in India's victory in the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971 and the Liberation of Bangladesh. Jacob, then a Major General, served as the Chief of Staff of the Indian Army's Eastern Command during the war. During his 36 year career in the army, he also fought in World War II and the Indo-Pakistan War of 1965. He later served as the Governor of the Indian states of Goa and Punjab.. Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day or Armistice Day) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth countries since the end of World War I to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. This day, or alternative dates, are also recognized as special days for war remembrances in many non-Commonwealth countries. Veterans were joined by over 400 people including representatives from other embassies and high commissions in New Delhi.  It was also attended by officials from the Indian Armed Services, with representation from over 100 serving personnel. On the 30th anniversary of the Falklands Conflict Margaret Allen, the wife of the Able Seaman Iain Boldy visits the wall at the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire to take part in a Remembrance service.  During the service Margaret lit a single candle in the Millenium Chapel and took part in a one minute silence to hounour the loss of 255 service men during the conflict.   ..Along with the service those present were invited to view the ongoing work on a new memorial, initiated by the South Atlantic Medal Association (SAMA 82), to remember the 255 UK servicemen who were killed during the Falklands war. The organisation, which was set up by former veteran Denis Davison was created to work for peace through their combined experiences of war. Known as the Flying Nightingales the nurses flew with the RAF crew and were not allowed to wear a parachute as their sole responsibility was the casualty. Alan Hartley, 90 was a former member of the Royal Air Force (RAF) and responsible for servicing the Gliders which flew the perilous but successful mission onto Pegasus Bridge.
