  • © Licensed to London News Pictures. 19/12/2013. This Christmas tin from 1914 sent by Princess Mary is usually credited with being the first such Christmas box for soldiers serving overseas. The contents of this tin are thought to have been framed and mounted by the family of a soldier killed in the first world war. Christmas boxes for solders from the present day back to 1900 have gone on show at the Firepower Musuem in South East London. The collection includes a New Years christmas tin sent in 1900 by Queen Victoria. Some historians think she should be credited with the annual gift box rather than Princess Mary who was responsible for the Christmas box, sent in 1914. It's the first time the Victorian box has gone on show at the museum, which is one of the oldest military museums in the world.
