Former Royal Marine Commando Peter Dunning (28) from Wallasey who lost both his legs in an IED blast in Afghanistan in 2008 and now a member British Army's Ski Team  took part in a 30 minute vigil to commemorate fallen soldiers of WW1.  The Poppy Appeal is The Royal British Legion's largest annual charity campaign. In a little over two weeks, some 45 million poppies will be distributed by 350,000 dedicated collectors with the aim of raising £40 million.        Photo credit : Alison Baskerville/LNP

Supported by large amounts of coalition airstrikes, members of the Iraqi-Kurdish peshmerga today (30/09/2015) took part in an offensive to take seven villages across a large front near Kirkuk, Iraq. By mid afternoon the Kurds had reached most of their objectives, but suffered around 10 casualties all to improvised explosive devices.   • 26/03/2014.  Corporal Ryan Purdy (34) form Luton and a member of the Royal Engineers demonstrates an AW50 rifle, designed to destroy improvised explosive devices (IED). The display was part of an effort by the British Army to put on show it's new specialist, combat and command skills formation today. This new part of the Army will be made up of 36000 Regular and Reserve soldiers, which is a third of the army as a whole and supports the logistics of operations both in the UK and abroad. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge met with members of the team from the Scott-Amundsen Centenary Expedition in the Guildhall today. ..The 900 mile route across the South Pole was led by Lt Col Henry Worsley MBE and re created the original expedition that Shackleton set out on 100 years ago.   ..The event was also attended by double amputee, Sapper Clive Smith who was injured by an IED in Helmand in 2010.
