  • © Licensed to London News Pictures. 24/4/2014. Nuneaton, Warwickshire, UK. Pictured, Badger cubs Scampy, Fidget and Dopey were found by a rambler when just four weeks old, they were hiding in a hedgerow, suffering from hypothermia and lack of food, their parents both nearby, shot dead. Taken to Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary in Nuneaton, they were brought back to life with love and care by Geoff Grewcock who runs the Sanctuary along with 25 volunteers. The baby cub badgers now 12 weeks old, have doubled in size, Geoff smiles, "for some reason they have also taken a liking to my custard cream biscuits, they seem to love them and are currently getting through a packet a week" Now checked by a local vet, inoculated and tagged, Geoff has found a home for them at Secret World in Somerset, where they will join other badgers in purpose built sets and hopefully lead a full life. Picture shows Geoff Grewcock and the badgers. Geoff can be contacted on 02476 345243. Photo credit : Dave Warren/LNP

  • © Licensed to London News Pictures. 31/08/2016. Newent, Gloucestershire, UK. Badger Cull 2016. Members of the Wounded Badger Patrol from Gloucester Against Badger Shooting (GABS) patrol within the cull zone looking for any wounded badgers. The Wounded Badger Patrol aims to get help for badgers which have been shot and wounded but not killed, and are in attendance to help suffering animals which need veterinary help and not to disrupt the cull. The 2016 badger cull began this week, with the Government announcing the cull would be rolled out to new zones in Herefordshire, North Cotswolds, West Dorset, Devon and North Cornwall, effectively tripling the previous culling areas. The Government has licensed the culling of badgers by shooting to try and stop the spread of bovine tuberculosis, but campaigners and some scientists dispute the Government and farming industry view of bovine TB transmission from badgers to cows, and the efficacy and humaneness of shooting badgers to prevent the spread of TB in cattle. Campaigner Lynn from Stop the Cull checks near badger setts to see if the cull team have baited them with peanuts to draw the badgers away from the sett entrance so they can be shot. This badger sett looks disused, though there were signs of badgers living there only a few months ago. Lynn fears the badgers may have been killed before the cull began. The Government has licensed a pilot badger cull in parts of Somerset and Gloucestershire as part of efforts to reduce bovine tuberculosis in cows on farms. Campaigners say the cull is inhumane and will not eradicate bovine tuberculosis. 08 September 2013.<br />
