Nacreous clouds, also known as mother-of-pearl clouds, give off an unusually array of colours over Saltburn-by-the-Sea. Nacreous clouds are seen mostly during winter at high latitudes like Scandinavia, Iceland, Alaska and Northern Canada and sit in the lower stratosphere some 15 - 25 km high, well above tropospheric clouds.
