Big Ben's last chime

Big Ben, the bell inside the clock tower known as The Elizabeth Tower, will be silenced ahead of four years of restoration work to the glass on the clock face, the hands of the clock and the tower itself. One clock face will continue to show the correct time throughout the renovations, driven by a temporary electric motor. It is planned that the clock will be restarted for Big Ben to chime at New Year, on Remembrance Sunday and other special occasions. Photo credit : Stephen Chung/LNP
