North Sea, UK, Operation 'Mallards Saviour' - a massive exercise carried out off Tynemouth, North Tyneside by the MCA, Fire Brigades, RAF and Marine Incident Response Group (MIRG) to simulate the response to a fire onboard a major vessel at sea - takes place on board the DFDS ferry King of Scandinavia, the same vessel, now named King Seaways that suffered a blaze at sea this evening off the Yorkshire coast. The exercise was centred around RAF Rescue helicopters from 202sqn ferrying firefighters onboard to supplement the vessel's crew's own firefighting capabilities.
