Blessing of the wells in Tissington
Download© Licensed to London News Pictures. 05/05/2016. Tissington, UK. A crowd watches as members of the local church bless one of six colourful dressed wells in the Derbyshire village of Tissington. The origins of well dressing may have pagan roots later given a Christian Meaning. The dressings are made of clay dug locally which is adorned with dried flowers. The dressings are erected on the eve of Ascension day ready for the ceremony of blessing. Photo credit : Ian Hinchliffe/LNP
