A light projection reading 'WE CAN'T BREATHE' is cast onto the shell of Grenfell Tower in West London on the eve of the second phase of the Grenfell Tower Fire Inquiry. The slogan echoes the words spoken on the night recorded on calls to emergency services and loved ones begging for help that never came. Abbas Dadou, Chairman of Lancaster West Estate Residents Association comprising 800 homes and 2000 residents said "We stand in solidarity with the families who lost their loved ones in their fight for justice. They are us and we are with them. They are part of our community and their fight for justice is our fight." El Alami Hamdan who lost his daughter and his grandchildren in the fire said "how long must we wait for justice? It has been three years and still nothing. They promise everything and they do nothing"'
A press conference will be held this morning ahead of the Inquiry resuming, where a full statement will be released at 10am "Family members of those who perished in the fire that took the lives of 72 people on June 14 in 2017 attended the projection of 'We can't breathe' These words echo what we heard on the 999 calls of our loved ones, or the last breath taken by our brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers and our children that night as they begged for help. We have had to listen to these calls as part of the Inquiry reliving their pain and suffering and the failures which cost the lives of our loved ones that night. We are no longer going to keep silent. We demand justice. We want prosecutions. Our loved ones are not here to speak for themselves and we must speak for them". Photo credit: Guilhem Baker/LNP
