UK Weather: As the sun sets in a dramatic flaming red sky on a bright cold December evening in Aberystwyth, Wales, tens of thousands of starlings descend to settle in chattering masses on the cast iron legs of the town’s Victorian era seaside pier. The birds huddle tightly together for warmth , safety and overnight companionship , and look like dark leaves clothing the forest of girders and beams under the floors of the pier.
